Rea heads the times at first opportunity

ReaJonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) was the fastest rider in the opening session of Superbike , taking his CBR1000RR to a best time of 1'44.055. Privateer Jakub Smrz put in a lap close to Rea's, only 0.058 seconds behind on his Effenbert Liberty Ducati with reigning champion Max Biaggi third on his Aprilia Alitalia machine.
A wide spread of leading machinery saw Michel Fabrizio's Suzuki Alstare GSX-R1000 fourth, ahead of another Japanese four-cylinder, the official KRT Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R of Tom Sykes.
Ruben Xaus had a good ride for his new team, sixth overall, with privateer Pata Aprilia rider Noriyuki Haga the last rider to finish within a second of the leader. Another WSBK session will take place today, at 14.20 local time.
